1. REMOVE THE HEAT SOURCE OR CHEMICAL IF NEEDED.

2. REMOVE THE BURNED CLOTHING. OUR CLOTHING TRAPS IN THE HEAT. CLOTHING THAT IS NOT STUCK TO THE SKIN MUST BE CAREFULLY CUT OFF. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE ANY CLOTHING STUCK TO THE SKIN. DURING YOUR TIME WAITING FOR HELP TRY TO REMAIN CALM. PEOPLE HELPING THE BURNED INDIVIDUAL SHOULD REMAIN CALM AND HELP THE INDIVVIDUAL DO THE SAME.

AS SOON AS POSSIBLE GET THE BURNED INDIVIDUAL(S) TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL EMERGENCY

3. POUR THE BURNED AREA WITH COOL WATER FOR 10-15 MINUTES. WHEN THE FIRE/HEAT IS REMOVED FROM THE BURNED AREA CONTINUE PUTTING COOL WATER ON IT. THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT BURNS CONTINUE TO DAMAGE SKIN AND INTERNAL PARTS OF THE BODY AS THE HEAT TRAVELS IN THE SYSTEM. THE WATER CAN ALSO HELP RELIEVE THE PAIN.

NEVER PUT ICE, OINTMENTS, BUTTER OR SALVES ON A BURN. THAT WILL TRAP THE HEAT AND CAN CAUSE AN INFECTION.

4. COVER THE BURNED AREA(S) WITH A CLEAN DRY DRESSING OR A SHEET.

5. KEEP THE BURNED INDIVIDUAL WARM. EITHER CALL FOR PARAMEDICS OR TRANSPORT THE BURNED INDIVIDUAL TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL.
